A serious issue

Snoring and Sleep Apnoea

Snoring and sleep apnoea can have an immense impact on the sufferer, their partner and their family.

Effects can include:

  • Daytime sleepiness
  • Motivational issues
  • High stress levels
  • Lack of energy
  • Driving whilst tired
  • Poor effectiveness

Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) is also shown to contribute to more serious health issues:

  • Increased risk of mental health concerns
  • Increased blood pressure/hypertension
  • Increased risk of diabetes
  • Heightened chance of cadiovascular disease

A mandibular advancement splint can be used to treat snoring and mild to moderate sleep apnoea. These appliances work by preventing closure of the airway by holding the lower jaw in a stable position.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Sleepwell?

The Sleepwell is a dental appliance, worn at night, that stops or reduces your snoring.

It consists of two pieces and is designed to slot over both dental arches.

How does it work?

The Sleepwell features a small mechanism that holds the lower jaw in a forward position.

This prevents the airway from collapsing and the tissues at the back of the throat from vibrating, reducing the snoring sound.

What does it cost?

The cost of a Sleepwell appliance is £582.61.

Does it work?

Yes – it is the most clinically proven dental device available for the treatment of snoring.

Unique design features mean you can adjust the position of your lower jaw yourself for optimum comfort and effectiveness.

Is it comfortable?

The Sleepwell has been designed with a soft inner lining and full side-to-side movement to increase comfort.

Initially, you may experience an increase in saliva whilst wearing the Sleepwell, or feel that your teeth do not bite together properly in the morning. These are normal short-term issues and will lessen with time.

How do I start treatment?

You will need to book an initial appointment with your dentist to diagnose your condition and have your impressions taken.

You will be asked to complete a pre-screening questionnaire that will help your dentist identify the severity of your snoring.

You will then need a second appointment to collect your Sleepwell and learn how to use and adjust it.
